Found it through a random search but ever so glad I did. Smart and direct author spells out the true course of academic life for a new graduate or doctoral student. Before I read this book, I only had an idea of what to consider in my prep for the doctoral program. Now I know how to approach my reading and my writing to be the most efficient student possible. Incidentally, the author's most important points include the fact that we are students who are there to learn, doctoral programs should be considered as jobs and the academic world is riddled with politics.
I am a doctoral student and learned a lot of useful tips from this book that make me more efficient and effective. It's written in a conversational style and peppered with good humor.
This book stands out from all the other books I’ve gotten to prepare myself for grad school. There is so much helpful info in this tiny book that it’s unbelievable. I wish I had this book as an undergrad because a lot of the techniques in this book would have made colleg so much easier
