About the Author

Matthew Alan House is an inquisitive and adventurous U.S. Army officer who moonlights as a haphazard globetrotter during his off-duty weekends. With Army postings in Germany and Japan, an Iraq combat tour, as well as assignments in the United States-Arizona, California, Florida, and Virginia-Matthew knows a thing or two about gallivanting around the world. He learns best by the trial-and-error method. . . . He is a top 10% officer who attended the Army-sponsored prestigious strategic leadership seminar at the University of Louisville, served as subject-matter expert trainer for deploying units at the Army's premier National Training Center, and commanded the Army's largest forward-deployed company in Japan with distinction. But his tactical abilities have yet to translate into savvy sightseer sensibilities-as he is destined to commit egregious hiccups in the cities he visits, thus constantly testing the patience and compassion of his loving spouse, Deanna. Matthew holds a B.A. in International Studies from the University of West Florida and a M.A. in Political Science from the American Military University. Matthew will graduate from Florida State University in December 2017 with a M.A. in Asian Studies. I very much enjoyed having Captain Matthew House in my graduate editing workshop at Florida State University. When I read his travelogue, I was immediately hooked. Matt grabs us by the elbow and brings us along as he and Deanna experience their wide-ranging adventures and hilarious misadventures across Europe and in Egypt. Soldier and Spouse is an engaging, smart, detailed, and thoroughly entertaining narrative. It's also a love story about a young husband eagerly taking his new spouse on surprise European weekend trips when -- uh, oh -- that was not supposed to happen. . . .

I enjoyed reading about Matthew's and Deanna's many destinations in Europe! He definitely made me want to go to many of the places he visited. I especially loved the humor in the book and I couldn't stop reading it. Deanna is a trooper and Matthew is an adventurous traveler! I am looking forward to his next book.

This book was very entertaining!!! The travels were far and wide and identified the realities of world travels! They were a fairly newlywed couple who learned a tremendous amount about each other. There were many lessons learned, and, even though a lot of unexpected ups and downs occurred, they both still have a lust for travel!! It was clear that you don't have to have a lot of money to enjoy world travels, but splurging once in a while, is a grrreat thing!! I have a feeling a sequel is twirling around their minds!!

Every place Matt and Deanna visited in the book I could imagine myself there with them. I love their funny, cute stories and how Matt is always trying to impress Deanna. Great book for Matt's first published book. I can't wait for the next one.

Loved this book! It was a fun and interesting read! Made me think of my own travels with my husband. I am a travel bug myself and haven’t been to Europe but this book made me want to go to places I haven’t thought about. I’m ready for a 2nd book Mr and Mrs House!!

A delightful read. Makes one want to call the travel agent. Highly recommend.
